Astrid,
Below is Jason's response regarding his computer hardware
specifications.........I have no comments. I suggest discussing it with
George regarding how, where and what to buy. I really don't know much
about computer hardware. Regarding computer software that he mentions,
I agree with everything except Macromedia Flash. I don't think it is necessary
or appropriate for the web page at this point because 1) we want to keep
the web pape at the lowest common denominator, while still being useful
and informative; 2) if we add anything fancy I doubt a locally hired Communications
person will be able to maintain it.
These are the same programs I also requested a while back. I currently have everything he lists except for Fireworks on my computer but they are my own programs, which I installed on my computer because I couldn't wait any longer and haven't had time to pursue it further. But I do suggest we invest in legal copies of these programs and that they be installed here in this office and in the Guyana Office.
Happy shopping!
Cheers,
Edith

1. Yes. I would like to toss out some specifications for my computer. I'd like to give you more details, but here are some quick basics. Perhaps I'll get back to you Thursday or Friday.
Ram: 216 or more. (note: Ram is more important than the processor. So if we have to skimp some of the processor to get more ram, it's worth it)
OS: Win 2000 Pro or Win XP (Could settle for Win 98B). Not Win NT, for it doesn't support USB.
Hardrive: 20 GB should be easy to find. But bigger is always better.
Monitor: At least a 17".
USB: It would be great if it came with USB 2.0, but I won't get my hopes up. Two USB 1.1 ports would be fine.
Optical Drives: CD-RW will be needed. One optical drive is all that is neccessary.
I brought lots of software with me. But if the WWF wants to own copies, here is what I'll use, in order of priority:
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Adobe Photoshop
Macromedia Fireworks
MS Office
Adobe Acrobat (writer, not the free reader)Those are the big-ticket items. Hope that give some guidance and is not over the top. Tell me if my requests are far fetched.
2. I'm updating the Monologue section of my site (http://net.jasonpearce.com/monologue/) via a web browser using blogger.com. Very handy and easy. No ftp.
Thanks,
